Interactive Map With Zoom
This is an interactive map of the 2014 Ebola epidemic that spread throughout the world. This is a nice map due to the simplicity of what is shown. The orange countries are the ones that had documented cases and also contains the number of deaths.

Project Proposal
For the final project I plan on creating a map of the
Washington Capitals 2014-2015 season. The audience for this project will be
fans of the Caps and people who are generally interested in hockey. Regardless
of which team someone is rooting for, seeing how far the teams travel across
North America provides perspective on how much these athletes are moving to get
to the next game. The map should also appeal to sports fans because there are
not that many quality sports maps available. For people that do not watch
hockey, this map will have some fun elements from the sport to provide the
audience with a hockey atmosphere.
All 82 regular season games will be displayed in the
shape of the seating sections in the stadium. There will be an upper and lower
circle of the sections so that all of the games will be visible on the page at
once. When the mouse clicks on each of the sections a pop-up will display the three
stars of the game, the score of the game, and the location on a map where the
game was played. A scoreboard of the wins, losses, and overtime losses will
keep track of the team’s record throughout the season. One of the most iconic
features of hockey is the siren that goes off when the home team scores and
will be incorporated into the project. When the user clicks the continue button
on the splash screen, the audio of the Caps goal siren will play.
Due to the amount of time the class has spent in flash
this project will more than likely be in flash as well. A splash screen similar
to the one in lab 5 will be added to the beginning of the movie to provide an
introduction to the features of the map. All of the 82 games will be buttons
that are clickable to allow the user to see the stats of each game. The buttons
will function similar to the lab 2 animation style. An optional play through of
the entire season is also doable. The play button would start the movie at game
one and the user can watch as the game counter on the scoreboard changes and
the team jumps all over the place showing where the game is being played. The
animation and the buttons from lab 4 would be the inspiration to the animation
in this project. Instead of a linear timeline like what was in lab 4, the stadium
sections will move clockwise in a circle as a timeline.
The information that will be used in this project can be found
on any sports website that covers hockey. This makes finding the stats about
the players for each game easy to find and will save a lot of time. The designing
of the layout of the map should take about a week to get all the elements
arranged. Designing and programming each button will take time and should be
accomplishable by the third week of April.
